Chicken and Waffles 8/12/10

No, you’re not in the ATL and I’m not Gladys Knight. Once again it’s time for Chicken and Waffles. The weekly rambling of random offroad info.

Last weekend the NCHSA held round 10 of the 2010 Championship Series. The “KeepItRoostin.com Hare Scramble” went off in Boonville, NC. To no surprise Kailub Russell dominated the race to take the Overall win. Kailub was riding a bone stock 2011 KTM 250 SX-F and still rode away without much of a challenge after the first lap.

Also, Offroad Junkies’ own Charkie Huegel rode the FTI/CV4 RMZ307 project bike to a fifth place finish his first time on the bike.

I made my on camera interview debut at Boonville, and with the exception of shaking my head and saying “perfect” a lot, I think I did okay for a first time. Be sure to check out the interviews with Kailub Russell, Greg Reynolds, Trevor Connell, Matthew Pressley and Bart Hayes on Offroad Junkies.

Turning to more national type news this week, there’s a rumor going around that the Fred Andrews Racing Team have been testing Husqvarna’s for next year. Is it true? Could we see a Husky assault on the XC2 class? Well, I don’t know. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Last edition of Chicken and Waffles I gave a mid-week Loretta’s update on the offroad riders who were racing the biggest amateur national in the world. Charlie Mullins ended up a respectable 19th after a DNF in the first moto in the 450A Prosport class. GNCC Womens rider Shelby Rolen ended up 10th Overall in the Womens class after fight back from some early week troubles and last but not least GNCC 200-A contender Cody Gragg ended up 23rd in Schoolboy after a DNF in the final moto.

Oh, and apparently there was an offroad legend racing at Loretta’s last week… 4 Time Blackwater 100 champion Mark Hyde took third in the Masters 50+ class!

What else is going on right now? Well, it seems as if mid-size mania will be sweeping the GNCC’s soon! It’s no surprise that a lot of riders have been wanting to go a little smaller than a 450 for the offroad scene. Well, with the introduction of the new KTM 350SX-F and Husqvarna’s TE310, you just may see it happening soon.

Word is Cory Buttrick is planning on breaking out the 350 for Unadilla. Also, Glenn Kearney is planning on riding the Husky 310 as well. I believe that info was also reported on the GNCC site last week, but it’s worthy of getting mentioned again. Why?

Well, think about it. Take into consideration that nearly every 350 SX-F at most dealers is already spoken for, then if they can prove themselves as a player in the Pro class, it just may bring about a whole revolution. How many of you feel like the 450 is too much but you want more than a 250F? Heck, I know that’s the way I feel. That’s the exact reason why so many of the 350’s are already sold.

Now, I wouldn’t count on seeing many other manufacturers making a mid-size bike right away but with the way the 350 has already shown success in sales, it will only be a matter of time.

Let’s skip ahead to this upcoming weekend, and most of you may be heading out to your local series to have some fun, right? Maybe some of you are just planning on riding? Well, lets take a look across the east coast and see what’s going on…
